FAF Mag is a magazine, not a data business. This page describes what information passes through the site, why, and what you can do about it. No small print, no clauses designed to be skipped.
What is collected
Two things, and only two.
- Ordinary visit data. When you open a page, our hosting and our analytics record the page address, the time, the site or search that sent you, and general details about your browser and device. Your IP address is processed to give an approximate location, normally a city or region, and to protect the site from abuse. We are looking at patterns across thousands of visits, not at you.
- Whatever you send us. If you email hello@fafmag.com, we have your email address and your message. There is no way around that, and no other purpose for it than replying.
There are no accounts on this site, no logins and no payments, so we hold no passwords and no card details.
Why
To keep the magazine online and working. To learn which articles readers actually read, which is how we decide what to commission. And to have a conversation with you when you start one. We do not profile readers, we do not sell data, and we do not pass your details to anyone who wants to market to you.
Cookies
Some cookies are essential and just keep pages behaving properly. Others are analytics cookies, which count visits and tell us how people move around the site. Where the law requires consent for the non-essential ones, we ask for it, and a refusal costs you nothing but our statistics. You can clear or block cookies from your browser’s settings whenever you like.
Other companies involved
We use outside services to run the site: a web host, a content delivery network, an analytics provider and an email provider. They handle data strictly on our behalf, under privacy terms of their own, and are not permitted to use it for anything else.
Articles often link elsewhere, and sometimes embed a video or a track. The moment you click or press play, you are dealing with that company under its own policy. We cannot see what they collect and we cannot control it.
How long it is kept
Analytics is aggregated and not tied to an identifiable person; it is kept only as long as it is useful for editorial decisions. Emails stay in the inbox while the matter is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, then go. If you want your correspondence deleted sooner, say so and we will do it.
Your rights
Data protection law in the UK and the European Economic Area gives you a set of rights over your own information: to see what we hold, to correct it, to have it erased, to object to or restrict our use of it, to get a copy in a usable format, and to withdraw any consent you gave. You do not need a reason and there is no charge. Write to hello@fafmag.com and tell us what you want; we will deal with it within a month.
If you believe we have mishandled your data, you can complain to your national data protection regulator. We would much rather hear from you first and fix it ourselves.
Children
FAF Mag is written for adults, though everything on it is safe for work. We do not target children and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Updates
When this policy changes, the new version replaces this one here. Anything significant will be announced at the top of the page.
